Hi everyone! I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve God with each of you and to get to know you. My husband, Gary and I, are members of River Road Presbyterian Church. We were raised in the west end of Richmond before transplanting ourselves in the fan, which we love. We are parents to Emily, Stuart, and Preston. I am a pharmacist and enjoy birds, flowers, exercise.....sometimes, and yes, I must confess, shopping!

My first and only overseas mission trip was to village of Calshi in Ecuador with my daughter, Emily, after her third year of dental school. The little girl I have the pleasure of holding, in the picture, lived with her aunt, as her mother spent most of each year in Spain earning money to send home. Emily has been an inspiration to me, as I have watched her share her talents with people in Nicaragua, Honduras, and a future trip to Myanmar. I left Ecuador feeling like I had received far more than I had given and was so blessed for the opportunity.

I recently sent a text to my Freeman High School friend and college roommate, Kathy White, that said, "We must do a mission trip together!" She immediately replied, "Come to Haiti with me!" How could I ever consider passing up an opportunity to experience the treasures of mission work with my treasure of a friend?

At this stage in my life, I am so incredibly thankful to God for my many blessings and for His love and forgiveness and constant pursuit of me. I am the mother of 3 wonderful children who bring me unimaginable joy. My two sons, Michael, age 23, and James, age 16, will be coming to Haiti along with my precious husband, Mike. My daughter, Meredith, will have just graduated from Princeton in June and will be starting a new job so she cannot be with us.I have had the luxury of being a "stay at home" mom since Michael was born in 1991. While I have stayed at home in order for my husband to travel on medical mission trips, I have yearned for that opportunity myself. So, I am excited about this opportunity to work alongside my brothers and sisters in Christ and to share God's incredible greatness with others.

I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. After graduating from Princeton in 1985 where I met Mike, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry while he attended medical school. Moving to Baltimore in 1989, I continued my pharmaceutical career until Michael and Meredith were born in 1991 and 1992, respectively. In 1995, we settled in Richmond, Mike's hometown, and were blessed with a third child, James in 1998. In addition to my children, I care for my mother who lives in Richmond at an assisted living facility. My life has been spent in service to my family, my community and my church. However, it wasn't until we joined Third that I developed a personal relationship with our Savior and with that relationship came an intense desire to witness to others. Traveling to Haiti will enable me to serve others and to share the gospel.

My most recent passion is my involvement on the Board at the Tuckahoe YMCA and my leadership of the Social Responsibility Committee there. My committee provides outreach to the under-served families in the geographical footprint of the Tuckahoe YMCA. Many of these families in need are refugee families who have recently fled persecution in their homelands. Though supported by the US government for a brief period of time, these families face incredible hardships as they try to establish themselves here in Richmond. Through my committee's work, we are walking alongside them on this journey, building their trust and inviting them into our community at the YMCA. We have started a weekly tutoring program, provided free or subsidized YMCA memberships, and are hosting a cultural resource fair to assist them in connecting with organizations that will benefit them as they navigate life here in Richmond. I am excited as God's plan for our work continues to unfold.

I was born in 1998 in Richmond. Though baptized at River Road Presbyterian Church, I have grown up at Third. I have attended many schools, K-3 at Collegiate, 4-5 at Three Chopt, 6-8 at Tuckahoe Middle School IB and now at St Christopher's and in the 10th grade. Aside from academics, I love music. I have played the piano for 10 years, the trombone for 4 and sing in both the Glee Club and Saints Singers at St Christopher's. I also love sports; I play football in the fall, wrestle in the winter, play tennis or do track in the spring and swim on the summer swim team. I have an older brother, Michael and older sister, Meredith and two dogs, Murphy and Chester. I am excited about going on the trip to Haiti; I have done community service in Richmond helping both at VBS at Third and with STEP but have never left the country to do mission work.

I grew up in Richmond where my wife, Pat, and I have raised our two grown daughters, both of whom also live here, as do our four grandchildren. Twenty-five years ago I went on a mission trip to the Yucatan Peninsula and have indelible memories of the Mexican peoples’ gracious love and appreciation amidst abject poverty. I look forward, once again, to this opportunity to serve — such a far cry from my daily job as a lawyer.

My family and I live a few blocks from Third and enjoy being able to walk to church on fair weather days! However, we've only done this a dozen times or so in the 7 or 8 years we've been attending Third because someone is usually wearing walking-inappropriate shoes. Our daughter, Talia will be coming with us to Haiti!

This picture is from our last trip to Haiti on the rooftop of HOM. Billy and I live in the west end of Richmond and have four children. Billy works from home as a voice actor, and I homeschool our three youngest. There is never a dull (or quiet!) moment in our house, and we like it that way. We have been attending Third regularly since 2006. We love to travel, and we love the beach! We’re excited to be traveling to Haiti with you!!

I was born and raised in Richmond and have such a great love for my hometown. I left in 2000 and just recently returned with my wonderful wife, Becky, and our son Peyton, Jr. Raised as Christians, we both discovered the Lord in a new way in New York City. Being in such a big city, we learned about the power of community and how transformative a vibrant Christian community can be to its city. We are thrilled to now be back home worshiping at Third. In addition to loving the Lord, I love the Redskins. They afford me opportunities to exhibit grace weekly…

Last summer was my husband Derek’s and my first trip to Haiti. We fell in love with the Haitian people and were touched by their strength, courage, and faith! The sweet baby in this picture with me is Nadia, a precious little girl we met last year at Gertrude’s Orphanage near Haiti Outreach Ministries. Derek and I joined Third almost four years ago and have been teaching third grade Sunday School together. I also enjoy helping with Third’s youth group and Mosaic Ministry. Outside of Third, I work for Markel and I love volunteering with SportAble, an organization that helps people with physical disabilities play sports. Derek and I will be celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary on our last day in Haiti!

Kellen Ball

Hello, all. Richmond has been my city for the past 7 years with Capital One as my first and only employer after graduating from Penn State. RVA has been a rapidly changing city ever since…and it’s been exciting to be working with some of the regions YP groups to witness the changes.

As for this trip, the seed to join a mission trip was planted by a seat-mate on my flight to New Orleans earlier this year. You never know what will happen through talking to really interesting people. Which, is one of the compelling reasons – to meet all of you, the fellow mission trip participants. My goal is to own my own business at some point in my life. Not sure of what the business model will be, but I am really intrigued by marketing, human centered decision making, and building/maintaining cultures.

HI everyone! Although I am originally from Ohio, I currently live in RVA in the Woodland Heights neighborhood with Kellen Ball, who will also be traveling on this mission trip. We love living so close to the James River and are often outside running, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors. I work at Capital One as a Project Manager in the Credit Card line of business. I really love animals and would love to get a dog. However, I am getting a graduate degree at University of Richmond while I work so I do not have time right now to care for it—I am a great puppy sitter though if anyone needs a little help 🙂

I am a Richmond native who started school at Tuckahoe Elementary. Now a physician specializing in facial plastic surgery and sinus and allergy diseases, I make a habit of praying with each of my patients before surgery. Patients and their family find this immensely calming, and it provides the opportunity to witness on a daily basis. I have previously served in Bolivia, Honduras, and Kenya. This is my first medical trip to Haiti, and I am delighted to be traveling with my wife Ellen and 2 sons, Michael and James.

I am originally from Massachusetts, but I met my wife, Charlotte, while attending William and Mary. After graduating, we got married and lived in Boston for a few years before we moved to Richmond and became a part of Third in 2011. Charlotte and I serve as the third grade Sunday School teachers and I am part of a Third men's small group. I work for Thompson, Siegel, and Walmsley, an investment management firm. In my free time I enjoy running, reading (American history, mostly), following the Red Sox and Celtics and taking walks with our beagle Butterscotch. This will be my second trip to Haiti.

I am really looking forward to having both my wife, Dana, and my oldest daughter, Talia, on the Haiti team with us. In addition to Talia, I have two younger daughters. I grew up in the Richmond area and when Dana and I graduated from Virginia Tech, we made Richmond our home.

We have attended Third Church for about 8 years and we consider it our neighborhood church since we live within walking distance. I have been to Haiti twice before with Third, my sole experience with overseas missions. I am an architect by profession and based on my previous trip, very little of my training applies to Haitian construction! I really enjoy sketching and I am looking forward to carving some time for that while in Haiti.

My name is Talia Moore and I live in Westham. My parents are going on the trip, and they are Dana and Andrew Moore. I also have a pet lizard named Puzzle, and she's a Bearded Dragon. I have been attending Third with my family (and occasionally but not often alone) for 7.5 years and love it!

My favorite thing to do is horseback riding. I have been riding weekly for 2 years, and my favorite horses' names are Wally and Millhouse. With my mom I have been tutoring CHAT little tykes for three years. I hope this tells you a little about me, and I'm excited to get to know everyone on the mission team soon!

Bonjou! I'm Rachel and I live in Church Hill (with the lovely Susie Flowers). I'm from Portland, Oregon but came across the coast to attend the University of Richmond. I fell in love with East End Fellowship (my home church) and the Church Hill community through my summer internships at local nonprofit, CHAT. Currently, I work as an Administrative Coordinator at a local technology company in Richmond.

I love to travel, learn new languages, cook, paint, watch films, the outdoors, serve others, and eat! I'm a big fan of noodles, especially Pho. I've traveled a lot and am so excited to be returning to Haiti this summer. Haitian mangoes, I'm ready for ya! A fun fact: I can speak French 🙂 Excited to meet you all and go on this adventure!

Fearless Leader: Medical Team

Greetings to the group. Privilege to be on this team, excited about another trip to Haiti! Faye and I live a little down River Road, not far from Third where we have been attending since 1978 -- lots of changes since then!
Enjoy family, grandchildren, taking care of people, volunteering at CrossOver, and fly fishing. Thanks to Buddy Childress who led us to Haiti in 1999, have had lots of trips there since then -- hard not to go back -- to fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ and to work alongside their ministries -- loving people for Jesus.
Raised in Camilla, GA -- cooked and sold boiled peanuts for 10 cents a bag.

Hi, I'm Catie, originally from North Carolina and now living in DC. I've loved Richmond ever since coming to college at the University of Richmond, and I attended Third for a few years while in school.

I'm going on this trip because the lovely Rachel Pricer told me all about her experience while visiting in DC -- she didn't know it yet but I had already been praying about some kind of opportunity to experience medical missions before starting my Masters in Public Health this fall! I've never been to Haiti but I speak French and have been wanting to go since reading Mountains Beyond Mountains, so I'm looking forward to this trip with you all.
